Return and Refund Policy
Effective January 1, 2026
The National Institute for Health Technology (NIHT) recognizes that circumstances may arise that require a student to cancel enrollment or withdraw from a program. This policy explains the conditions under which cancellations, withdrawals, and refunds are handled.
This policy applies to NIHT educational programs, including instructor-led programs, online education, and self-study programs. Certain refund calculations may vary based on the program, method of delivery, educational materials provided, and applicable regulatory requirements.
1. Cancellation Within 72 Hours
A student may cancel enrollment by providing written notice to NIHT within 72 hours after signing the enrollment agreement.
When cancellation occurs within the applicable cancellation period, NIHT will refund tuition and fees paid as required by the student's enrollment agreement and applicable law or regulatory requirements.
A deposit, down payment, or seat-reservation payment that is credited toward tuition is not automatically considered nonrefundable and will be treated in accordance with the applicable cancellation and refund requirements.
2. Withdrawal After the Cancellation Period
Students who withdraw after the applicable cancellation period but before completing 50% of the paid instructional segment may be eligible for a prorated refund.
The refund will be calculated based on the portion of the applicable instructional segment that remains uncompleted, subject to the student's enrollment agreement and applicable regulatory requirements.
Once a student has completed 50% or more of the applicable paid instructional segment, tuition is generally nonrefundable unless applicable law, regulatory requirements, or the student's enrollment agreement provides for a greater refund.
3. Online & Self-Study Programs
NIHT offers educational programs that may be delivered partially or entirely online. This includes NIHT's Self-Study Program, which is designed for independent online completion.
For online and self-study education, student participation and program completion may be determined using available academic records, including course access, completed modules, lessons, quizzes, examinations, assignments, or other documented educational activity.
Merely receiving login credentials does not, by itself, determine the percentage of the program completed.
Because online educational content and digital materials may be made available immediately following enrollment, students are encouraged to review all enrollment and cancellation terms before accessing course content.
Refund eligibility for an online or self-study student will be determined according to the applicable cancellation period, documented academic progress, enrollment agreement, and applicable regulatory requirements.
4. Instructor-Led 80-Hour Program
For students enrolled in NIHT's instructor-led 80-Hour Sleep Technology education program, withdrawal and refund calculations will be based on the applicable paid instructional segment and the student's documented progress at the time of withdrawal.
Documented progress may include live or recorded instruction completed, required coursework, examinations, and other required educational activities, as applicable to the student's enrollment agreement.
Clinical practice requirements, when applicable, are considered separately according to the requirements of the student's program.
5. Payment Plans
Participation in an NIHT payment plan does not alter the student's tuition obligation or refund eligibility.
If a student withdraws while participating in a payment plan, NIHT will calculate the student's tuition obligation as of the effective withdrawal date. Amounts already paid will be compared with the amount the student is responsible for under the applicable refund calculation.
If the student has paid more than the amount owed, NIHT will issue the applicable refund. If the student has paid less than the amount owed, the remaining balance will remain due.
Stopping scheduled payments, disputing a payment, or failing to make a scheduled payment does not constitute formal withdrawal from the program.
6. Educational Materials & Student Kits
Certain NIHT programs may include or offer physical educational materials, textbooks, student kits, supplies, or other items.
The refundability of physical materials will depend on whether the materials have been shipped, delivered, opened, used, personalized, or otherwise rendered unsuitable for return.
Any applicable material or kit charges and return requirements will be disclosed in the student's enrollment documents or at the time of purchase.
7. Written Notice of Cancellation or Withdrawal
Students wishing to cancel or withdraw should notify NIHT in writing. Written notice should include the student's name, program, and a clear statement that the student wishes to cancel enrollment or withdraw from the program.
The effective date of withdrawal will generally be the date NIHT receives the student's written notice, unless another date is required under applicable law or institutional policy.
Failure to use a particular NIHT form will not, by itself, prevent recognition of a student's clearly communicated written intent to withdraw.
8. Administrative Withdrawal
NIHT may administratively withdraw a student for reasons permitted under institutional policy, including failure to maintain required academic participation, failure to meet financial obligations, violation of student conduct requirements, or failure to satisfy program requirements.
When a student is administratively withdrawn, any refund or outstanding tuition calculation will be determined using the applicable institutional refund policy, enrollment agreement, and regulatory requirements.
9. Program Cancellation by NIHT
If NIHT cancels a program or course and is unable to provide an appropriate alternative, affected students will receive any refund required under their enrollment agreement and applicable law.
When appropriate, NIHT may offer a student the opportunity to transfer to a future course or program rather than receive a refund. The student will not be required to accept a transfer in place of a refund to which the student is otherwise legally entitled.
10. Refund Processing
When a refund is due, NIHT will process the refund within 45 days of the applicable cancellation or withdrawal determination, or sooner if required by applicable law.
Refunds will ordinarily be returned through the original payment method when practicable.
Payments made through a third-party financing provider may be subject to the financing provider's procedures in addition to NIHT's applicable refund calculation.
11. Transfers and Deferrals
Requests to transfer enrollment to another NIHT course or defer participation to a future course are considered separately from withdrawal.
Approval of a transfer or deferral is not automatic and may depend upon program availability, the student's academic standing, payment status, and other applicable requirements.
A transfer or deferral does not create an entitlement to a refund beyond that otherwise provided under NIHT's refund policy, enrollment agreement, or applicable law.
12. Questions & Refund Requests
Questions regarding cancellation, withdrawal, or refund eligibility should be directed to the National Institute for Health Technology.
Students are encouraged to contact NIHT promptly when circumstances affect their ability to continue a program so that available options can be reviewed before additional academic or financial obligations are incurred.
